Why buy coffee online?

beansThese days, it’s possible to buy more or less anything online from jewellery to houses. When it comes to coffee, though, why should you buy online rather than from a local retailer?

Often, as online retailers don’t have the same overheads, they’re able to offer better prices and higher grades of coffee than conventional wholesalers. One of the most significant advantages, though, apart from the convenience factor, is that online wholesalers tend to have a high turnover of stock. This means that the coffee you buy is likely to be as fresh as it can be, which is important from a taste point of view.

Once roasted, coffee quickly degenerates and should be drunk no more than two to five after roasting, so any time in storage will impact on flavour. Coffee beans last longer than ground coffee, which should be used immediately after grinding. Unroasted coffee has a longer shelf life, but is still better enjoyed fresh.
Online retailers often have less well known brands for sale. This is no reflection on the quality of the coffee, as it’s often the produce of small exporters without a huge output. This coffee is usually well-priced, and you’ll be able to try different types and blends of coffee that aren’t available elsewhere.
Lastly, buying from a specialist online coffee wholesaler rather than a general wholesaler means you’re also buying expertise and knowledge. A specialist retailer will normally offer a range of peripheral accessories including flavourings, cups, lids and milks for all your coffee needs, making them a one stop shop – and you can be sure you’re dealing with people who know their business, and are happy to advise.
At the Wholesale Coffee Company, we’ve got a great range of blends for you to try, both roasted and green. For more information, please visit our website at www.wholesalecoffeecompany.co.uk.

Coffee Cups in Coffee Shops

Maybe you are setting up a coffee shop, or looking to entertain your guests in style. Whatever the occasion one thing is for sure: how you present things alters how people perceive them. People feel better and think things taste better if they are beautifully presented.

If you are setting up a coffee shop paying extra for nice china probably doesn’t sound wonderful to your ears, but it may pay off in the future, if it’s matching an equally well thought through interior decor that makes clients feel at home. If you have the white standard cups that every other coffee shop uses no one will pay attention. If, on the other hand, you have something beautiful and unique, people will remember it. Of course it can’t be so expensive it ruins your budget, nor so frail that it breaks by the slightest touch.

When you choose your china, and for that matter the interior decor, set your creative juices free and dare to have some fun with it! Just bear in mind to double check how many others agree with your design as by the end of the day clients need to like it as well, not just you.

We also have to mention that if you are setting up a coffee shop we offer fresh roasted coffee beans, green coffee beans (if you are roasting yourself) and various other supplies through our shop at wholesale prices. Nothing better than self marketing and all that. Ahem.

Whipped Cream and Other Coffee Toppings

Maybe the cake isn’t all about the icing, but it does help if the icing tastes nice. Otherwise, why have icing?

When it comes to coffee some like it plain, some like it with milk, and some like it with topping. Whipped cream is popular for some coffees like mocha and sometimes the whip comes with chocolate, or other things in it, or on it. If you run a coffee business the topping can make or break you. At least if you have a client like the author of this blog. You see I love whipped cream and if they give me the fake stuff I tend to avoid it. Hence, in London you will usually find me at Nero’s as they use real cream. My only complaint is that they don’t sweeten it.

Now you might not run a coffee shop, but if you like indulgent treats and experimenting with your coffee then there are some toppings worth trying. Below you find some ideas.

* Add a shot of Baileys to your coffee and then top it with whipped cream with a shot Baileys in it (add whilst whipping) and a few flakes of chocolate (you can grate some chocolate with a cheese grater, or chop it with a knife)

* Like orange? Add some orange essence into your coffee, a bit of honey or brown sugar, then add a tiny bit of orange essence to your whipped cream as well and top it off with a piece of candid orange. You can also add orange zest to the whip if you like it a tad more bitter.

* You can also have even MORE coffee in your coffee: add 2 teaspoons espresso powder or 2 1/2 teaspoons freeze-dried coffee crystals and a generous tablespoon of sugar (or honey, or maple syrup) into 1 cup heavy cream. Whip as usual, tasting and adjusting the sweetness toward the end.

* If you love chocolate, you can use that for your cream. In a double boiler or the microwave, melt 3/4 cup bittersweet chocolate chips. Let chocolate cool until still liquid but not hot, about 5 minutes. Whip 1 cup heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add 1/2 chocolate mixture and beat until combined. Add remaining chocolate and 1 tablespoon sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.

Other ideas is to add almond essence, crushed candy cones (for that Christmas flavour), crushed Daim chocolate pieces (a Swedish favourite), vanilla powder, or vanilla essence, cinnamon, chai tea powder (or chai spices: nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom)

As always: use fresh roasted coffee beans and if you want to buy coffee online, we suggest you use us as your retailer (naturally). We also sell green coffee beans if you want to roast them yourself. That way they are guaranteed fresh! If you are buying coffee online from someone else, do your research first as you want to use a reliable shop, especially if you have a coffee shop where good coffee can make or break you.

And remember, whatever you do: use fresh roasted beans of a good quality. It’s the best you can do to ensure the drink turns out nice. And of course: freshly whipped cream. Not the stuff that comes out of a can – after all you want a traditional Christmas!

Autumnal Tea – Tea for Autumn

It’s officially snuggle season. Even if you don’t have a significant other you can snuggle with your blanket, whilst sipping tea by the fireplace. Your home, if it isn’t already, should be filled with the scent of cinnamon and apple cider. If you live alone and think you can’t be bothered, think again. There is nothing nicer than coming home to a home that feels like home.

Here at the Wholesale Coffee Co. we think snuggle season is perfect, because people tend to sip more tea. Our tea, preferably. As the days are shorter and the darkness longer pick-me-ups in the form of coffee also come in handy. And when you smell our freshly roasted coffee beans you won’t stay sleepy for long. It’s almost impossible. In fact we heard one study proved people started typing faster just by smelling coffee.

We are of the opinion that it’s best to make the most of each season and deck the halls with all things warm and cozy. Otherwise it would just be dark, cold, and sad. Add some colourful leaves, spicy teas, and red knitted scarves and the story starts to look slightly differently.

Below you will find an autumnal tea recipe, but just in case you notice your employees or co-workers fall asleep, get some of our green coffee beans and roast them yourself. The aroma should most certainly awoken the rest of the office.

Apple Cranberry Tea

This tea is served warm and is perfect for an autumn day. It has autumn-inspired ingredients such as apple juice, cranberry, and pumpkin pie spice. This is sure to put you in the autumn spirit.

Ingredients:

  • 5-6 tea bags (preferably black tea)
  • 5 cups of apple juice (the real kind, not concentrate and no added sugars/sweeteners)
  • 2-3 cups of cranberry juice (to taste)
  • ¼ – ½ cup of honey
  • ¼ cup of lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
  • 5 cups of boiling water

Directions:

Add tea bags to the boiling water and allow to steep for 7-10 minutes (depending on strength you desire).  Remove tea bags from water and add the rest of the ingredients. Stir and serve. This tea will be warm, not hot, since the cranberry and apple juice are added to the hot water – if you want it hot you have to heat the juice as well.

Christmas coffee

‘Tis the Season

‘Tis the season…to drink coffee. Naturally. It’s always the season to drink coffee. However, in Christmas time you can add some extra spice to those fresh roasted coffee beans of yours. You can do so by adding traditional Christmas spice into your regular blend, like cinnamon and nutmeg for example. You can also try candy cane lattes, or why not eggnog lattes?

Below we have listed some recipes we found. Of course you need to buy coffee online from us and then it’s just to get started. And if you really can’t buy from us then we recommend truly fresh roasted coffee beans that you grind at home. The fresher the better. You can even buy green coffee beans and roast them yourself.

Eggnog Latte – recipe from Mother Nature Network

Prep time: 5 minutes, Cook time: 1 minute
Ingredients
• 1/3 cup 2% milk
• 2/3 cup eggnog
• 1 shot (1.5 ounces) brewed espresso
• Nutmeg (optional)
Directions
1. Pour milk and eggnog into a steaming pitcher and heat to between 145-165 degrees F, using the steaming wand.
2. Brew the shot of espresso, then add to mug.
3. Pour the steamed milk and eggnog into the mug, using a spoon to hold back the foam. Spoon foam over the top. Sprinkle ground nutmeg (or grind fresh nutmeg yourself) on top of the foam. Serves one.

Candy Cane Latte

1 cup almond milk or regular organic milk
1/2 cup brewed coffee or 1 shot espresso
2 tbsp crushed peppermint candy canes + extra for decoration

Whipped cream (optional

Mix the coffee with the candy cane, then add the steamed milk (if you can’t steam it at home, whip it whilst heating it to get it frothy. Almond milk, however, does not really froth). Potentially add some sweetened whipped cream. Sprinkle some crushed candy cane on top and serve with a candy cane to the side.

Who doesn't want to wake up to a yummy peppermint latte on Christmas morning??

Educating Your Coffee Shop Clients

Have you ever heard about educating your clients? If you haven’t, you might wonder why you should educate them? Why do you tell your clients you sell fresh roasted coffee beans if they don’t have nose enough to figure it out themselves (like hello that scent should say it all)? Why tell them that if they buy the green beans they can roast them at home to come up with their own roasts and blends? And why tell them about the laborious process of harvesting and roasting coffee? Why not just serve them the coffee and the associated products and hope they like them?

There are two reasons why you educate your clients: passion and money. If you sell the best fresh roasted coffee beans in the vicinity chances are you are passionate about it. Likewise, if you are selling fairtrade coffee, knowing that the farms your coffee comes from have properly paid employees, you are probably passionate about letting clients know so that next week they don’t buy coffee that came from slave trade.

So where do the money come in? Well, if someone knows for sure that your coffee is fairtrade, chances are they are prepared to pay more for it. Likewise, if you describe the elaborate process of finding the best beans, roasting them yourself and making unique blends, it will sound like you are selling something valuable. If people know it’s valuable, they are happy to pay more. When they know the hard work and expertise that’s gone into something they are usually prepared to pay more.

If you manage to really impress someone, or make an impression there is also the possibility of them telling their friends about it. If they tell their friends then they might end up your customers also. You will also find that the more someone thinks about coffee the more they want it – the more engaged you get in something the more you wanna try everything around it.

So let us tell you right now: we’re passionate about coffee and the coffee we sell is great. For example we have various different green coffee beans for roasting. Perfect if you have a coffee shop and want to make your own blend. Try our Forte or Caribana for example. Of course we also sell Nespresso. In case you have too much to do to spend time perfecting your espressos. So if you want to buy coffee online, check out our shop!

How to Present Drinks Beautifully

In Sweden there is something called “kaffe kalas” which directly translated means “coffee party.” Usually you do this for a birthday, or when gathering friends. It’s an old term and not used so much by the younger generation, but the tradition stays the same today: when there is a celebration you invite friends and family over for coffee and cake. In Sweden, according to tradition, it should be seven different kinds of cake. To say a lot of cake is eaten in Sweden is an understatement, yet in comparison to the copious amounts of coffee that are drunk, it’s nothing.

If you are hosting a coffee party in Sweden you use your finest china. It’s rare you see elaborate coffee drinks and intriguing presentations. If you want to host a coffee party yourself, have friends around for tea, or if you own a coffee or tea shop you might consider looking into cute presentations though. There is nothing quite as impressive as getting a nice tasting drink served looking like it was a piece of art. And let’s face it: if your significant other shows up with breakfast in bed and have made incredulous cups of coffee, hot chocolate, and tea, it only makes it that much better.

Of course, to truly impress someone you need the best ingredients as well. Here at the Wholesale Coffee Co. we’ve made a living out of selling coffee online. If you are buying bulk it’s perfect buying coffee online and we have many different varieties (we even have green coffee beans if you want to roast them yourself), as well as tea and coffee.

Why buy a cup when you can bake one? We’re guessing it’s lined by some fatty frosting (like coconut butter/oil mixed with sugar and potentially some flavouring like fresh vanilla, coffee, etc.) to prevent the coffee from being soaked up by the cake. We also presume the coffee is cold or needs to be drunk fast as frosting melts…

Paleo Coffee Treats

You’ve probably heard of the Paleo diet. Chances are if you are reading this you might be on the diet right now, or curious to try recipes from it. And therefore, you probably also know there will be no gluten, no refined sugars, and no dairy in the recipes. That doesn’t mean you don’t get treats, or coffee, even though strictly speaking, coffee isn’t part of the diet. For most people the important bit is health however and so long as coffee isn’t damaging your health, then it’s allowed, given you don’t so to speak over dose.

The Paleo diet is a lot about quality foods and sticking to what is natural. In other words: if you are to make a treat, or drink coffee, use the best quality options: organic, fairtrade and if decaffinated then use water processed coffee beans. And as always: fresh roasted coffee beans makes for the best cup. You don’t necessarily have to buy green coffee beans and roast them yourself, but if you have a grinder then it’s better to grind your own coffee! Or use Nespresso capsules!

Today we will share a Pumpkin Spice Latte Paleo recipe from Freckled Italian with you and our next blog will be Double Mocha Biscotti. Combined we figured they’d get you through the winter blues!

Pumpkin Spice Latte, the Paleo Way

Ingredients:

Makes at least two drinks.

5.46 (yep, that’s real) ounces of canned coconut milk

4 tablespoons of canned pumpkin (I just put the rest in a Tupperware)

1 tablespoon agave nectar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon cloves, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

A tiny dash of ginger

(Feel free to add more or less of something if you really love or hate one of these spices)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

An ounce or two of regular unsweetened coconut milk (in a carton)

A shot or two of espresso or some strongly-brewed coffee

1. Open your tiny can of coconut milk. Put a spoon under the thick part and pour the liquid underneath into a bowl. That’s what you’re using for your latte. The thick part will be whipped cream later, so put it in a separate bowl.

2. Mix everything except for the coconut milk in the carton together in a bowl and stir them up.

3. Once all the spices are incorporated into the pumpkin, add a few splashes of coconut milk from a carton to the mixture until it seems more liquid than thick. Heat up on the stove while you make some espresso or strongly-brewed coffee.

4. Take the bowl with the thick portion of canned coconut milk and whisk it up with a bit more vanilla and agave.

5. Fill a mug halfway with coffee and add the pumpkin mixture from the stove. Stir it–this stuff separates. Don’t get freaked out.

6. Add a few dollops of the coconut cream and sprinkle a little cinnamon on top.

Coffee Shop Window Displays

When setting up a coffee shop the first thing you think of is probably not the window display. The smell of fresh roasted coffee beans, yes. The idea of roasting green coffee beans to perfection, potentially yes (if you want to roast yourself). Splendid freshly brewed coffee, most certainly yes.

When people set up coffee shops they usually reckon that the best way to get patrons is to have patrons in the shop already. That’s the best window display – large windows that show the ambiance of the place and the people in it. How to get people in there? A big sign outside with some special deal, or temptation, the waft of freshly brewed coffee and potentially some freshly baked cakes too, and decent pricing, really great ambiance, and excellent treatment once you walk in the door. This might work, but by ignoring the windows altogether, you are missing out a great way of attracting potential customers.

If you have two windows you can definitively keep one as a “keyhole” where people can look to see what the people are doing inside. The other can be used for window displays, or you can simply keep the lower part of the window free all the way along the front of the coffee shop.

Window displays are your outlet for creativity and for coming up with little gimmicks that will attract attention – whether through extreme beauty, creativity, humor, or shock. What you have to bear in mind is to keep the display in style with the coffee shop, just like the decor of the place has to match the menu. In other words: don’t do neon lights in your window display if the rest of the place represents an 18th century style salon.

Next time you are in town have a look at various shops and their window displays – note what attracts you to some, and what makes you step away from others! Below you can find some inspiration for fall decorations, albeit you might have to add some coffee beans to yours. And the smell of freshly brewed coffee…
